Inexpensive breakfast ideas for TaxSlayer Bowl tailgate

The 71st annual TaxSlayer Bowl kicks off at noon on Jan. 2, and we know die-hard fans won’t let game time prevent them from cooking up a morning tailgate. Enjoy the Florida sunrise and build up some energy to cheer on Georgia and Penn State!

Tailgating costs can really add up. We want you to make the most of your time in Jacksonville but you can spend wisely while having fun. Pack your tailgate gear with you and pick some low-cost dishes. Breakfast foods alone can lower the budget compared to grilling burgers or other meats.

We put our aprons on to cook up our favorite wallet-friendly breakfast tailgate dishes, plus a few traditional menu items.

Grilled Pancakes: Use your favorite pancake recipe. Heat a griddle pan over medium-high heat on a gas or charcoal grill. Cook them as normal for a few minutes on each side. Keep them warm in a foil pan covered with aluminum foil.

Bananas: This power fruit contains lots of beneficial nutrients to keep you going through the game. You can get several bunches for a few dollars!

Grilled Cheese: Bread, cheese and butter won’t break the bank and it makes a warm, tasty breakfast sandwich. Cook up this crowd favorite on your tailgate grill.

Breakfast Burrito: A few dozen eggs and tortillas are another way to feed a crowd on a budget. Cook scrambled eggs on a griddle pan heated over your gas or charcoal grill. You can also warm the tortillas. Add cheese, salsa, avocado or any other toppings!

Monkey Bread: Gooey, warm cinnamon bread is the perfect breakfast dessert! Prepare this one at home, and keep hot in an insulated cooler or portable warming oven. Cut premade biscuit dough into pieces and cover with cinnamon sugar. Check out the complete recipe.

Rotel Dip: Everyone loves cheese dip, even before the noon hour. If you have a crockpot, this recipe has just two low-cost ingredients and serves 20 people! Add beef or sausage if you want to spend more.

Buffalo Chicken Dip: Here’s another budget-friendly dip using chicken. It’s great for big crowds!

Have fun tailgating and enjoy the TaxSlayer Bowl!
